Support for single mothers and child protection

This project aims to provide humanitarian and social support to particularly vulnerable families, composed of single mothers facing serious economic and family difficulties. It targets both widowed mothers left to fend for themselves and young mothers raising children alone without any support. Through collective reflection and concrete actions, the Étoiles du Cameroun association seeks to meet the essential needs of these families and work towards the protection, dignity, and well-being of children.

Inspired by concrete cases observed locally, this project intends to expand the association’s work to the city level, and even the national level.

The objective is to provide sustainable social support to mothers facing these situations, while placing the best interests of the child at the heart of all interventions.

“As part of our social work at the Étoiles du Cameroun association, I would like to bring to everyone’s attention two particularly concerning social situations that require urgent attention and appropriate support.

The first situation concerns a widowed mother who is solely responsible for six children: one girl and five boys, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years old. Since the death of her husband in a traffic accident just 7 to 8 months ago, this mother has been solely responsible for their upbringing, food, healthcare, and schooling, living in extreme poverty.

The second situation concerns another mother who has been abandoned by the fathers of her children. She is raising two boys alone, aged 4 and 9 months respectively, by different fathers, both of whom are absent and contribute nothing to their upkeep. This mother finds herself without any support or stable resources to meet her children’s basic needs.”

Faced with these two situations, it seems necessary for our association to collectively consider possible forms of support, both humanitarian and social, in order to provide concrete assistance to these vulnerable families and safeguard the best interests of the children.”
